Cloverfield 4 Developments
- Aprile 2018: Cloverfield 4 entered development.
- September 2022: J.J. Abrams confirms the next Cloverfield movie will be a direct sequel to the first movie.
- February 2023: Cloverfield director Matt Reeves had suggested the next Cloverfield movie might involve a deadly virus instead of a giant monster.
- May 2023: The viral marketing SLUSHO website randomly came back online.
- March 2024: A new Bad Robot production - Flowervale Street has been speculated to be the secretive new Cloverfield movie in disguise.
- July 2024: Screenwriter Joe Barton addressed the status of Cloverfield 4, mentioning another screenwriter was working on the script.
When was a new Cloverfield movie announced?
Cloverfield 4 has been in development since 2018. The project was initially announced with no plot details revealed - beyond the fact it would act as a proper chronological sequel to J.J. Abrams' first entry.
Since then, little to nothing has been revealed about the film. In true Cloverfield fashion, the film has been secretly developed behind closed doors, with no official plot details leaking out.
The Current State of Cloverfield 4
As of summer, 2025 very little has been said about Cloverfield 4. However, developments on the speculated Flowervale Street movie starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor have quietly been released with little attention. The plot synopsis:
A family in the 80s start to notice bizarre happenings in their neighbourhood.
... remains vague and ambiguous enough - it could be another Cloverfield entry. The one issue with this likelihood is the film takes place in the 1980s, but in 2018 ans 2021 J.J. Abrams said the next Cloverfield movie would be a true sequel to the original - which took place in 2008.

Produced by Warner Bros. and classified as a Thriller / Mystery - that certainly coincides with the genre Cloverfield falls into. But again, to assume it's linked to the Cloververse is still purely speculation.
When does Cloverfield release?
No official release date has been set for Cloverfield 4, but if we are to assume Flowervale Street is the next entry, the film will arrive in theaters March 13th, 2026. This is of course - speculative, assuming the two projects are one in the same. It is still very likely Cloverfield 4 could be eyeing a much later release date.
