Where is Cloverfield 4? Many have been wondering what's going on with the next Cloverfield movie for a few years now. Since 2018 when the new sequel was first announced, very little has leaked regarding the film's title, plot, cast and release date. In true Cloverfield fashion, the production on the latest film has been kept under extreme secrecy – so secret that many have begun to wonder, is it still happening? The answer is – yes.
While 2023 saw the viral marketing SLUSHO website mysteriously come back online and 2024 saw a few interviews mention the elusive Cloverfield 4, not much else by way of official acknowledgement by filmmaker Babak Anvari or Studios had really been made. However, flying under the radar by most – an interview with Babak Anvari during this year's SXSW screening of his film Hallow Road did acknowledge the project was still in the works. The director did confirm that the true Cloverfield sequel was in fact still on the way but explained he could not speak much of it, due to the intense secrecy its production has been under:
So sad that I cannot because everyone on that team is very secretive, which I understand. But whatever happens, just know that hopefully you’re going to get something amazing.
This is officially the most recent and most important update we've received regarding the next Cloverfield movie in years. Considering this interview took place in March of this year (2025), suggests the project is in fact alive and well, but moving quietly behind the scenes.
Prior to this, fans speculated that the film OVERLORD was going to be the next Cloverfield movie, which is wasn’t and most recently even we speculated on if the mysterious upcoming sci-fi movie Flowervale Street was going to be the next Cloververse film – but Babak Anvari didn't direct that one, rendering that theory essentially false.
Cloverfield 4 still exists and has been in production for years. J.J. Abrams confirmed years ago that the film would be a true direct sequel to the first movie and that it would be the craziest one yet. The bar is set very high for the next film, so it's understandable why production has been so drawn out.
