It's been a couple years since The Cloverfield Paradox released on Netflix and it's been over 10 years since the first Cloverfield was released. Now with Paramount's A Quiet Place Part 2 releasing in a couple months (March 18th, 2020), despite Bad Robot having moved on from Paramount, many fans are wondering - when will the next Cloverfield movie be announced?
Back in April 2018, J. J. Abrams announced that he and production company Bad Robot were actively developing another film set in the Cloverfield cinematic universe by confirming a script for a Cloverfield 4 was finished, teasing:
We are actually developing a true, creative Cloverfield sequel.
But since that quote back in 2018, word of the next Cloverfield sequel have been nonexistent. The sci-fi thriller God Particle turned out not to be a Cloverfield movie and the recent release of Underwater also proved to be unrelated to the Cloververse, despite many on the internet speculating the film was a secret installment in the Cloverfield timeline.
Late last year J. J. Abrams closed a deal, merged his production company Bad Robot with WarnerMedia for a reportedly $500 million. As a result, the likelihood of another Cloverfield movie was left uncertain.
Given that a script was finished and development had begun back in 2018, with no acknowledgement of the property being shelved indefinitely at WarnerMedia, we are left to assume the project is still alive. The question now is - when will we learn more?
We'll be actively keeping an eye out for any and all new Cloverfield news over the course of this year. Are you interested in a fourth Cloverfield movie? Where should they take the next film? Let us know your Cloverfield wishlist in the comments!
